You can use the
Lightyear 0 without charging for seven months. With this solar-powered EV,
there won't be a problem with the lack of charging facilities. The Lightyear 0,
the first production model from Dutch electric car startup Lightyear, has been
unveiled. The automobile, which is scheduled to go into production this fall,
can reportedly run for up to seven months without being plugged into a home
electricity or charging station.
You might wonder
how that is even feasible. The Lightyear 0 is equipped with five square meters
of double-curved solar panels that, in ideal conditions, can generate 11,000
kilometers of range per year or 70 kilometers of range per day on its roof and
bonnet. The WLTP range is 625 kilometers on a full charge.
In regions like the Netherlands, the automobile may go without a charge for up to two months, while in sunnier nations like Spain or Portugal, it can go for up to seven months. If this is any indication, the automobile will undoubtedly feel at home in Malaysia.
The Lightyear 0 is one of the most energy-efficient EVs because of its four in-wheel electric motors, which consume 10.5 kWh of energy every 100 km at 100 km/h. The 0's exterior form, which is slick and has a drag coefficient rate of less than 0.19, also aids in efficiency. The vehicle weighs only 1,575 kg and has a length of 5 meters.
The cabin has a
minimalist feel and is rather contemporary. The main feature of this dashboard
is a 10.1-inch touchscreen that gives users avv to the infotainment system of
the vehicle and supports cloud-based upgrades. Vegan and naturally sourced
materials are used throughout the rest of the interior, including eco-friendly
microfiber suede seats and rattan palm accents.
As indicated, the
Lightyear 0's production is scheduled to begin this fall (perhaps in
September), with the first deliveries anticipated to occur in November. The
solar-powered EV will only be produced in 946 pieces, and each one will cost a
staggering €250,000. (RM1.15 million). Fear not, however, as Lightyear claims
they already have a mass-production model that will sell for much less, at
€30,000, and be available in late 2024 or early 2025. (RM138,650).
