Last Friday marked the official debut of the J7 Premium off-road SUV in Malaysia by Jaecoo, a subsidiary of Chery. The model is available in two variants: the J7 2WD and J7 AWD, which have respective prices of RM138,800 and RM148,800.
THE EXTERIOR
Regarding its exterior dimensions, the Jaecoo J7 is 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm high, featuring a wheelbase of 2,672 mm. The J7 has impressive off-roading specs, including 200 mm of ground clearance, 600 mm of wading depth, and approach and departure angles of 21 and 29 degrees, respectively.
The specifications of the AWD and 2WD models' equipment are identical. The exterior equipment includes dual-tier LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a powered tailgate. The rolling stock is 19-inch ‘Aurora’ inspired two-tone alloy wheels.
Overall the Jaecoo J7’s exterior design beautifully embodies the classic SUV aesthetics rather than the typical crossover style seen in most modern SUVs. The name "Jaecoo" itself is a blend of the German word "Jäger," meaning "hunter," and the English word "cool." THE INTERIOR

THE MACHINERY
The same 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four petrol engine, generates 194 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque for both variants. In addition, a seven-speed Getrag wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox is used by both. There are 3 driving modes for the 2WD variant which are; Eco, Normal, and Sports. The additional 4 driving modes for the AWD variant are; Sand, Mud, Snowfield, and Off-road, giving a total of 7 driving modes for the higher spec variant.
The AWD model completes the 0-100 km/h acceleration run in 9.9 seconds, whereas the 2WD variation completes the same run slightly faster—9.2 seconds. Each has a maximum speed of 180 km/h and rated fuel consumption of 7.7 l/100 km for AWD and 7.0 l/100 km for 2WD.
The J7's roof is rated for up to 75 kg of cargo and has a maximum towing capability of 1,300 kg and a pretty good luggage space with a maximum capacity of 412 litre.
